A mempo is a mask attached to the helmet of samurai armor. This piece depicts a complex and chaotic maelstrom of military and industrial synthesis originating in the face and culminating at the tip of the nose to aggressively charge the viewer. this mask was originally conceived as the headpiece to a shroud of the anthropomorphization of war. It takes as its base, the shape of a plague mask, evoking the concept of human war as a disease, the elements of which play on the surface as a pox upon itself. i used military plastic model bits in this work and in all my work of this type due to its ubiquity, which I find to be particularly fascinating in my countrys society. The glorification of war is no stranger to the “hobby” industry, and is in fact based on it. This work is to be counted as a first step to the exploration of that in future works.
