Charles "Charlie" Corriea is a motion designer and fabricator with 10+ years working in animation, including clients like Google and at studios such as Laika. Charlie is also an accomplished artist, creating incredibly detailed sculptures, drawings, and paintings.
Charlie graduated from UCSF with a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema, where he applied his solid foundation in traditional art to moving images. Charlie dove into all forms of animated storytelling, from traditional hand-drawn animation to computer animation and even augmented reality motion design.
Charlie has won several awards for his work, starting from his thesis film "Fu De" and including his contributions to the Golden Globe winning Best Animated Film "Missing Link" from Laika Studios.

Translated clients' original images (both digital and physical art) into short animated experiences that could be viewed through Augmented Reality (AR). Clients included:
California Art Supply (2022), where I recreated the company’s traditional logo digitally, animated it, and translated it into augmented reality.
Justin Angelos (2020 - 2022) where I designed and animated augmented reality versions of artist’s paper collages.
Look development artist, Mold maker at Laika LLC
06/2019 – 08/2020 Hillsboro, OR
Created models for “look of film” using various tools and materials for molding, casting, and assembly.
Evaluated individual assets to build custom molds based on their specific performance requirements.
Gathered and applied design feedback from the look development team.
Designed, built, and cast high-volume, multi-cavity molds (“gang molds”) and maintained their integrity over time.
Cast various-sized pieces in resin, foam, and silicone.
Upheld standards of Mold Shop safety and cleaning, such as weighing out, mixing, and safely handling chemicals.
Rapid Prototype Processing at Laika LLC
3/2017 – 3/2018 Hillsboro, OR
Prepared over 9,600 rapid prototype assets for use in Feature Film Production using a 13 step process.
Process included meticulous cleaning using proprietary water blasters, chemical baths, dental tools and compressed air. Finishing process included sanding, coating assets using airbrush and spray can based mediums, as well as adding glosses with .001” detail brushes.
Extreme attention to detail under magnification was required to process assets and ensure high on camera quality. Most assets are a quarter inch to two inches in size.
Coordinated with and lead teams of 3 to 7 processors in rapid completion of larger batches of assets.
Tracked and managed deliverables on a schedule under tight deadlines weekly.
Followed and assisted in safety protocols during each phase of the process.
Assisted in the research and development of improvements to the process.
Researched, experimented and built new tools to improve the processes.

Assemblage Artist/Painter at Freelance
5/2014 – 3/2017 San Francisco, CA
Created 14 highly detailed fine art sculptures for the fine art market including wall mounted and freestanding sculptures.
Sourced, curated, seamed, prepared and modified over 5000 plastic, paper, metal and wood pieces for use in assemblage sculptures.
Used large and small power and hand tools including power saws, drills, plains, dental tools and tweezers to assemble sculptures.
Used a variety of glues paints and solvents to achieve a cohesive look and feel across all sculptures.
Used a dual action air brush to achieve subtle gradients, color, dimension and unique lighting effects in each sculpture.
Set up and maintained a clean, safe, and organized work environment to create sculptures.
Freelance Animator and Concept Artist at Bim Bam (Studio Godcast)
11/2012 – 6/2013 San Francisco, CA
Designed, story boarded, and animated a fully realized 2 min animation based on an a award winning original poem.
Broke down original and scratch voice track to create timed storyboard. Revised early storyboards with production staff.
Met with production staff regularly to refine ideas and story though re-editing of animatics and weekly viewings.
Drew and hand painted over 2000 index cards from director approved storyboards. Scanned originals into computer for editing.
Assembled, modified, animated and edited over 100 separate handmade and digital assets in After Effects.
Edited film to Recorded voice track in Premier.
